What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position?

Salary: Denver, CO - $94,890 (Step 01) to $123,358 (Step 10); Reston, VA - $96,970 (Step 01) to $126,062 (Step 10) NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired atthe Step 01.

Responsibilities

As a Safety and Occupational Health Manager within the Office of Management Services (OMS), Occupational Safety and Health Management Branch (OSHMB), some of your specific duties will include:

  • Serves as the Support Section Chief with responsibility for advising and recommending policies, plans, standards and procedures for accident prevention and public safety; represents the Branch on bureau committees and working groups, and represents the USGS in Departmental Safety Council meetings.

  • Ensures that the organization’s strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the section’s strategies, goals, activities and services.

  • Supervises the section OSH, industrial hygiene specialized safety program staff – budgets, plans, assigns and reviews work, evaluates performance, counsels employees, resolves complaints, etc.

  • Plans, coordinates, and directs an education program to meet training requirements of a diverse workforce engaged in job-specific hazardous activities to include: operating watercraft and large vessels; aviation, firearms and radiation activities; handling highly toxic, reactive, or flammable chemicals, etc.

  • Provides administrative and operations support and technical assistance to mission and regional management, collateral duty safety program coordinators, and employees.

Occasional travel - Occasional travel of 4-5 nights per month may be required.

  • You must have 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12 level in the Federal service. Examples include: Managing safety/occupational health program; Applying safety/occupational health laws, regulations, principles, procedures to resolve or advise on technical matters; Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products for compliance; Designing or modifying work places, products, processes to control/eliminate hazards; Developing standards, regulations, procedures.
  • You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.
